Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Point System

When a person is convicted of most traffic infractions, the DMV will note the conviction on the person’s driving record and assign demerit points based on the severity of the offense.  These points not only determine when the DMV will may suspend a person’s driver’s license, but also how most insurance companies will adjust their premiums.  Thus, it is prudent for one charged with even the most minor of infractions to avail themselves of every chance to have the charge dismissed, or even reduced to an offense that will diminish the impact on their insurance rates.   Learn more about the DMV Point System
